Ash Wednesday is also Valentine’s Day this year. Makes sense, Ash Wednesday kicks off Lent which is a countdown to Easter. And like the meme says, “you can’t spell Valentine without lent."
The reason Christians walk around with a cross smeared on their forehead one day a year isn’t just so people will say things like, “excuse me, you have something on your face.” It’s a reminder that from dust you came and to dust you will return—which is a bit of a bummer but that’s not the end of the story. Because Jesus died for you, your sins are forgiven and you are no longer defined by them. You no longer bear the mark of your sin, instead you bear the mark of Jesus. That black cross is a sign of hope! Because since Jesus rose from the dead, you will also rise.
1st Peter 3:15 says, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for your hope.” Ash Wednesday is a great opportunity to beg the question.
Drive by AGR Sports Adventure Park on Wednesday, February 14th between 7AM and 8AM. You can wear the sign of the cross on your forehead all day, letting people know about the hope you have in Christ. I’m looking forward to seeing all the lovely couple’s out for a romantic dinner with black crosses on their foreheads!
