Get Your Ashes Over Here!
The reason Christians walk around with a black cross smeared on their forehead one day a year isn’t just so people will say things like, “excuse me, you have something on your face.”
It’s not just so we can look like lost Fanclub members of some Goth Emo band.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of lent. It’s a countdown to Easter—the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead. So we want to walk around reminding each other of the reason He had to go to that cross for us.
We also want to be reminded of the hope that comes from it. From dust you came and to dust you will return, but that’s not the end. We’re all going to die but that’s not the end.
Because Jesus died for you, you are no longer defined by your sins. Because He rose from the dead, you’re going to also rise.
That smudge tells this whole story to anyone who will listen.
Come by Kona Haven Coffee Wednesday morning between 6:30 and 8 o’clock. We’ll have free coffee, donuts, and you can wear the sign of the cross all day, letting people know about the hope you have in Christ.
When they say “you got something on your face” you can say, “Yeah! A smile.”
